Be informative. Above all else, ensure you have informative content. The most entertaining writing doesn’t make you an authority on much more than entertainment. If you want to link to somebody but you don’t want it to count as a vote (you don’t want to pass link-juice), or you support user-generated content and want to deter spammers, you can use a nofollow link. Google says it discounts the value of those links. I’m not convinced they discount them heavily, but other SEOs are so they seem to deter spammers if nothing else. Sometimes, your site will need some downtime, so you can fix things or update plugins. Most of the time, this tends to be a relatively short period in which Google will most likely not attempt to crawl your website. Search engines display page titles in their search results. In addition, search engines use page titles in order to recognize what information the website contains.
Content doesn't necessarily mean written words
It's not actually that difficult to get on page 1 of Google in a search (but that depends on the search!) You need to know your market and you need to have a good understanding of SEO and how to use keywords. I always keep an eye on the business across the street, or in my case, across the internet.

If you want to achieve a higher ranking on Google and other search engines, you’ll need to get serious about search engine optimization. One of the problems international businesses continuously need to address is identifying themselves as “local” in the eyes of the search engines. Including your target keyword within your page title positively correlated with higher search rankings.
